CHARACTER
» NAME: Kanan Jarrus
» CANON: Star Wars: Rebels
» CANON POINT: post-s3 finale "Zero Hour"
» AGE: like, 28

» SETTING: Here's a handy wookieepedia

» SHORT DESCRIPTION: brave, selfless, loyal, persistent, occasionally riddled with self-doubt.
» INFLUENTIAL EVENTS:

Raised a Jedi: Kanan has absolutely no idea where he was born, or who his biological parents were. He never knew a normal life, and instead was raised from infancy within the Jedi Order. The basic tenets of the Jedi were instilled in him as far back as he can remember - especially the stuff about being compassionate, putting others before yourself, etc. He still exhibits most of these qualities as an adult, even when occasionally protesting to the contrary. Also important to note that his families have always been non-traditional, found families. Biological ties don't really mean anything to him - it's loyalty and trust to the people he's come to know in his life that's much more important to him.

Order 66: At age 14, Kanan lost literally everything he'd ever known when the Jedi were slaughtered and Palpatine came to power. This scarred him deeply, not just the loss itself, but also the survivor's guilt that went with it - why did he survive, a young Padawan who hadn't finished his training, but all those great and powerful Jedi Masters died? This is a lot of the source of his self-doubt - believing himself in some sense "unfinished" and possibly cowardly for having run away instead of standing and dying with his Master and the other Jedi has led him to be hesitant in training Ezra and being a teacher or father figure to the boy. Being forced to hide what he is for so long gave him a degree of caution and self-preservation that sometimes wars with his innate compassion for others.

Gorse: While working as an explosives hauler on a backwater planet called Gorse, Kanan met someone who would change his life forever: Hera Syndulla. After years of wandering the galaxy alone, having cut all ties with others in the face of a life trying to avoid the Empire, Kanan was almost instantly in (puppy) love with the determined, driven young Twi'lek revolutionary, and she inspired him to do some things he hadn't done in a long time - care about people enough to risk himself for others. Stand up and fight against the injustices of the Empire. And even reveal his Force abilities to her - something he'd been careful not to do since Order 66. The two became partners after this adventure.

Taking on a Padawan: Several years after partnering with Hera, Kanan met Ezra Bridger, a young Force-sensitive orphan on Lothal, and reluctantly took him on as an apprentice. This has become as much a learning experience for Kanan as it has been for Ezra, as Kanan has had to face up to his own feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt - and overcome them - in order to become the Jedi Master Ezra needs to train him properly. Having to rein in his own impulsiveness, stubbornness and personal doubts has led Kanan to learning a lot more about what it really means to be a Jedi.

Blinded: On Malachor, Kanan was blinded by the former Sith Maul - leading him to another spiral of self-doubt and recrimination that nearly drove a permanent rift between him and Ezra and the rest of his crew. In the months since, Kanan has had to come to terms with the fact that he will never see again, and also has had to shed the last vestiges of his own baggage in order to fully embrace the Force - in so doing, becoming an even better Jedi and gaining the ability to "see" with the Force itself. At this point, he's become more Jedi-like than ever, and has once again embraced the selfless compassion he was taught to exhibit, in fighting the Empire's injustices.

» FIT: Kanan will probably be a pretty good fit - he's traveled all over his home galaxy, and he's lived for long periods of time on spaceships. He's clever and adaptable, even in the face of really bad odds, and he's the guy who will jump up and put himself in the line of fire to protect others.

» POWERS: Kanan's a Jedi, so he can do a bunch of cool Jedi stuff using the Force~!

- Telekinesis! Objects, people, five tons of rock, he can move it, pull it, throw it, whatever!
- Super jumping power! He can jump farther/higher than the average person, maybe do a sweet flip in midair if he's feeling really Extra today.
- Enhanced senses, reflexes, and healing.
- Talks to the animals: Kanan has been seen making telepathic connections with animals - to calm them, etc.
- Jedi Mind Trick/Telepathy: limited, but Kanan is skilled in the Jedi Mind Trick, which he can use to make people do things (if they are weak-willed enough). Like, convincing that stormtrooper to let him pass without checking his ID or whatever.
- Force sense: pretty vague and handwavey but Kanan can sense people and animals and such through the Force, can pick up on emotions, stuff like that. This works best when he's meditating and/or particularly focused but he can do it to a limited extent pretty much any time.
- Precognition: Very limited, but basically the Force allows him to sense stuff before it happens so like, he's really good at dodging. Also he may occasionally be prone to a Force Vision - a glimpse into the future, but these are rare and fragmentary and very difficult to interpret.

» NOTES: I don't think any of his powers are super game-breaking or would need to be nerfed, really - maybe some of the telekinesis, so he's not opening doors that are un-openable, which is fine. I've got a permissions post for his more invasive abilities and will always ask first before having him do something like the Jedi Mind Trick to another character.
