〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Kanan Jarrus
CHARACTER AGE: ~30
SERIES: Star Wars: Rebels
CHRONOLOGY: 4x10 "Jedi Night"
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Uh randomize me I guess

BACKGROUND: I lost my way for a long time, but now I have a chance to change things.

PERSONALITY: Kanan Jarrus is a man who has spent a lot of his life running - from the Empire, and from his own guilt. He was a fourteen year old padawan when the Clone Wars ended with Order 66 - the clone troopers turning against the Jedi and slaughtering them. Kanan's own master, Depa Billaba, sacrificed herself to save his life, and he spent several years hiding his true identity, and not using the Force at all.

So for years, Kanan actively avoided putting down roots and forming long-term attachments, right up until he met Hera Syndulla, who would come to be one of the most important people in his life. Hera wasn't certain of him, but Kanan quickly decided to follow her wherever she went - even if he didn't necessarily like the way she kept messing with the Empire. Eventually, though, she brought out the best in Kanan - he's a fully-committed rebel now, not because Hera talked him into it, but because he finally saw the good they could do for people suffering under the regime.

That said, Kanan is by his own admission not fond of "protocol" and still sometimes has reservations about being part of a bigger, more organized rebellion. He worries that their little crew might be sacrificed in service to a greater good, and he actively avoids being part of the rebellion's chain of command - a reflection of his master Depa Billaba's own ambivalence about making Jedi into generals in the Clone Wars. Despite this, though, Kanan is a good leader, adaptable and able to think on his feet, and even the fact that he's blind doesn't stop him from taking point on critical missions from time to time.

Ezra Bridger is another very significant person in Kanan's life - he's become Kanan's padawan, and through Ezra, Kanan has reconnected with the Force and with his Jedi roots, becoming a stronger fighter and gaining a lot of wisdom as well. He had a lot of self-doubts at first, and still does from time to time, but he loves Ezra and is extremely proud of him.

"Smartass with a heart of gold" is a good way to describe Kanan. He long ago learned to deflect difficult emotions with humor, and still often does this, even in really serious situations. He likes to smart-mouth people he considers enemies, especially anyone who works for the Empire - maybe not the most Jedi-like thing to do, but then, in some ways, Kanan is only maybe three-quarters Jedi.

Ultimately, though, Kanan is a good guy who sincerely believes in the ideals of both the Jedi Order and the Republic - he sees the necessity of toppling the Empire, but more than anything, he's found a family in the crew of the Ghost, and he's loyal to them first. This has, perhaps, put him a bit at odds with his longtime partner Hera, and they've begun to question where their relationship is going, with the rebellion becoming bigger and more intense. If anything, the biggest question Kanan faces right now is, if he survives to see the Empire fall, what kind of future does he want, for himself and his loved ones?

MOM memories/canon update: Previously, Kanan tried to make the most of what he considered a "vacation" from the Rebellion, especially given his partner, Hera, was also around. The two reaffirmed their commitment to each other and generally tried to relax. Upon his return, he'll retain these memories, but also now with the awareness that he's dead back home! So uh, if anything he'll just throw himself even more into daily life in MOM. He's got nothing to go back to except being one with the Force, after all, so he might as well make the most of whatever time he gets here.

POWER: Kanan's powers fall under one big umbrella: The Force. The Force is the energy that works through all living things in the universe and that certain people are able to use to a greater or lesser degree. As a Force user, Kanan has several interrelated abilities:

Telekinesis: He can use the Force to move things, from something small like his lightsaber, to people, to potentially whole space ships if he so chooses.

Force jumping: He can use the Force to jump much longer and farther than normal humans, flipping around in the air and whatnot.

Heightened senses: Kanan can use the Force to enhance his senses - being blind, this is particularly useful as he can "see" using the Force when necessary. He can also sense other Force users over moderate distances.

Jedi mind trick: Kanan can overcome lesser willed beings using the Jedi mind trick, though this is something he would do only rarely if ever, and it's a temporary effect. The stronger-willed the person Kanan is trying to control, the more difficult it will be for him to accomplish.

Empathy/precognition: Kanan can "read" the emotions of others - this pretty much only works in close proximity, and he can't read specific thoughts. It works best with someone feeling a very strong emotion like anger or fear. In addition, Kanan may occasionally have a glimpse of the future - the Force has been known to give people visions, though these are usually very difficult to interpret.

〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE: [It might not be all that strange for someone wearing a mask to appear on the network; it might be a little strange for a mask covering the entire top half of someone's face, including his eyes. Not that Kanan seems at all concerned by this fact - he looks pretty relaxed, his attitude almost flippant. ]

I gotta wonder about a world with the technology to bring people in from other galaxies, but where no one can even get off-planet. Does that seem a little backwards to anyone else? Or nah.

[ He waves it off. ] At least tell me there's a decent dojo around here.

LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE: A NEW TDM!!!
