Could talk about some of the weird cuisine here. Like...
[ She gestures to her menu. ]
What's a chilidog?
[ But she pauses from her joking when he asks her about her spying, and her lekku twist once over like she's wringing her hands, what she does when she's nervous. ]
... I didn't want him to get involved. I shouldn't have gone in without backup, but it was spur of the moment. That man, Hux...
[ Like something a bantha might vomit. But that's beside the point here! ]
Hera. I've already been warned about this Hux guy by about four different people. You know you can't just go barging in on things without backup or recon beforehand.
[ She knows Dooku was a member of the Separatists, if not the leader, but the majority of their struggles against the Seps were against the forces of Wat Tamboor. Admittedly, Dooku's status as a Sith Lord was of little interest to her father- he only cared for Ryloth's freedom. ]
[ Thank the Force for that. Kanan is a lot better now than he was the last time he tangled with Vader but he still wouldn't be a match for him. Not by a long shot. ]
Count Dooku. I... ran into him shortly after my arrival.
[ Kanan never met the guy personally, but he heard all the stories. ]
[ Her eyes widen in shock as she stares at him. Dooku was a Sith Lord? Oh. That cannot be good. ]
... He contacted me as well. Think he knows I'm the daughter of Cham Syndulla. How long until we get a target on our back- a jedi and the daughter of the man who pulled Ryloth from his control?
[ How long until any of them have targets on their back? ]
[ Yep. Fallen Jedi, now out to kill them all, the works. GREAT NEWS! ]
The good news is... he can't exactly come after us here. Not in any obvious way. I mean, he could, but it would just get him into trouble, as far as I can tell. He doesn't have control of a droid army, here.
But if he's here, he's up to something, and we need to figure out what.
[ All the same, Hera's worrying. Her grip is starting to tighten on her mug as she thinks of how this could go wrong. True, he doesn't have a droid army, he can't legally hunt them down. But. If the rumors were true-
The mug of caf shatters in her hand, accidentally pressed too hard. The cooled liquid and shards of ceramic go flying across the table, spattering Hera's hand and even cutting it open.
Every eye in the diner is on them, and she wishes for once she wasn't the only non-human in sight. ]
[ Kanan can sense her worry, as attuned as he is to all of Hera’s moods. He is not, however, expecting the sudden shattering sound, the drops of liquid hitting his hands, the startlement of the few other patrons. If he didn’t know better, he might think it was blaster fire shattering that mug. Or an attack of some kind, but he senses no hostile or aggressive presence. Just Hera, agitated, embarrassed? ]
Whoa, there.
[ He reaches for her hands, startled but his instinct always to protect, not jump away. ]
Hera is tough - scrappy, quick-thinking, adaptable, agile, fast, good with a blaster, and Kanan has never once thought of her as weak. But putting a dent in durasteel? Shattering a mug with her bare hands? Kanan could maybe do some of that with the Force if he had to, but Hera isn't Force-sensitive. He would've been able to tell if the Force had been in any way involved in shattering that mug. He would've felt it. So, what? It's just sheer physical strength? ]
That... could be useful.
[ A practical response. He lets her gather up the pieces because he can't see them and he'd probably just cut himself, instead grabbing for a few more napkins to wipe up the liquid mess. ]
[ He's a great teacher, considering his work with Ezra and Sabine. And this gift- trying to control it instead of the sporadic, emotionally driven mess she's gotten herself into. Fear. Anger. Agitation. Those are what her newfound powers seem to respond to the most, as if the adrenaline pumping through her causes her abilities to spike. ]
... We should probably continue this discussion at home. My apartment isn't far- and hopefully the roommates are out or asleep.
[ Her powers aren't Force-connected, but they do seem somehow connected to her emotions, and Kanan can definitely teach her to control those. If nothing else, some meditation might help her find a decent equilibrium.
He stands, pulling out some of the money that was given to him on arrival - hopefully enough to cover their drinks and the broken mug. ]
Yeah? I was told I live here, too. Number... eleven.
[ Hera can't help the laugh- she had been expecting him to be in De Chima or at least in another housing unit, like Ezra had been. But Eleven? That's her unit, too. ]
Well, then, welcome home, love. We're living together.
[ She takes his hand, the worry and embarrassment and frustration of the last few moments slipping away with happiness and tranquility. ]
[ And he means it, too. He's used to living in close quarters with Hera - for a long time, it had been just him, her and Chopper on the Ghost. And then Zeb came along. And Sabine. And Ezra.
The feeling of her hand in his is good, and right. And while he's worried about the other members of their crew, and certainly is aware of the necessity that they get back to their own galaxy at some point - for the moment, at least, Kanan feels pretty content. ]
[ The feeling of his hands in hers is just so intrinsically right. Like a calm after a storm. Like the Force that had drawn them together, giving her the other half she'd never known she'd been missing. Her lekku start to cross twice over, radiating the love and peace that being with Kanan brings.
They haven't had time during the war. Put off their relationship- SHE had put off their relationship- until the Empire's flags weren't flying and everyone could live the way they wanted. And they had that here. Yes, they had to go back eventually. Yes, they would have to fight. But for now, it's a peace she's never had. A time to have something she'd never been able to indulge in before. ]
Heropa Sixteen. Not that far from us. We can request to move to housing together.
[ Hey, maybe he would rather not live with mom and dad for a while! But it's up to Ezra. Kanan is just glad to have him close by, along with Hera. He'd like it better if Zeb and Sabine and even Chopper were here, too, but maybe they'll show up as well. Just for a holiday. ]
Hey, remember when you kissed me about an hour ago? Maybe we should try that again.
[ A smile curls on her lips, and she wants nothing more than to lead his hand to her lekku to let him feel how they're crossed in the universal signal of adoration. But the act is far too intimate for public, even if the street is deserted. Once they make it back towards home- their home, even if it isn't the Ghost- there will be more and more people milling about.
So she settles for gently cupping his face, holding the point of his chin, smirking up at him. ]
Perhaps we should. I think we're both a little rusty.
[ She kisses him again, and everything is right in the world. ]
[ Rusty is definitely a word for it, but Kanan finds it's like lightsaber training - he hasn't forgotten how, not by a long shot. And it's Hera, which is better - more important - than anyone else, ever.
haha no probs
[ He tilts his head slightly at her. ]
Spying? And you've brought Ezra along as backup, right?

[ Her lekku point at her back at the very memory. Her teeth baring slightly as she remembers just how awful of a man he was. ]
But I didn't have anyone in town other than Ezra. And I had an opportunity I couldn't pass on. Next time, I'll ask for backup.
[ Especially now that Kanan's here. ]

[ Like, literally, he's asking you nicely to bring him in on the next one. ]
Anyway, I think we have bigger problems here. An Imperial officer is one thing - even Thrawn. But there's a Sith Lord here, too.

Surprise Kanan your wife has super strength now

[ She's so gentle when she takes his hand, worried that she might hurt him with a touch alone. Slowly, gently, she rubs her thumb against his hand.
She reaches for the napkins to start wiping up the spilled coffee, sweeping as much of the mug together as she can. ]
Apparently, when people come here, they develop unique abilities if they haven't already had them. I've... put a dent in solid durasteel.
[ Or, you know, a car, but that's what it's made of, right? ]
